Friday, April 12th from 6:30-8pm for a (gentle) Poetry Slam and celebrate
National Poetry Month! What is a Poetry Slam? It is a competition using elimination rounds for the reading or performance of poetry. Why will our Slam be gentle? We will NOT have elimination rounds. You also need NOT perform your own original piece, although you are very welcome to do so. This program is a poetry out loud event. Here are the guidelines. 1. Each piece (either an original poem or a
favorite by another poet) must be no longer than 3 minutes. 2. You may either read OR recite your poem
from memory. 3. You may perform more than one piece—although
once you perform, you go to the back of the line to wait for another chance. 4. You may attend the event solely as an audience
member—there is no requirement to perform. 5. There are no age limits for participants—so
please keep your selection clean. 6. Each performer will get a prize for
participation. 7. Judges will be picked at random from the
audience to select the 3 best performances AND the 3
best poems. 8. We strongly encourage positive feedback
for all the performers. 9. When you arrive, please sign up with your
name and the title of your first poem on the sheet provided. For tips about poetry slams and reading poetry aloud, see the
links to the right. |
