Grafton Public Library Trustees Meeting Minutes
December 21, 2017
Attending: Bob Donald, Andrea Dunmire, Deborah Toomey,
and David Whittall
Bob Donald called the meeting to order at 6:10 pm.
Public comment: No
public in attendance.
The minutes of the November 16, 2017 meeting were read and
approved.
Treasurer’s Report
With the Library through 47% of the year, we are right on
budget.
Donations from the Annual Appeal are beginning to arrive. Of
special note are two from Windham Foundation Trustees Liz Bank and Suzanne
Welch which will certainly help us attain our goal. The Board expressed
appreciation to these Windham Foundation trustees for their generosity.
Request for
Additional Tax Funds
The request for additional Library Funding has been approved
by the Town Select Board. Bob Donald attended the Select Board meeting as well
as a special meeting regarding funding of the Grafton Fire and Rescue and the
Library. Because Bob spoke up and indicated that we would take the funding
request to the floor at town meeting if it were not approved, the Select Board
approved the full $5,000 request. The Library Board thanked Bob for his
efforts.
Librarian’s Report
The Grafton Community Christmas Festival December 3rd events
at the Library were well attended with over 30 people coming for Santa and
story hour. Bill Toomey’s storytelling was also well attended, but most
attendees were adults.
The Board discussed the library automation and are looking
forward to its completion. It will be nice to have an automated catalog for
readers. We understand that it’s been a monumental task.
The Board is pleased that the Bodman’s will continue to
support the Dorothy Canfield Fisher book awards.
Building and Grounds
Deborah or David will contact Galen Pinkham regarding the shades
for the non-fiction room. They’ll follow up on when he anticipates their
installation and the questions posed by Michelle. If in the area at the time of
installation, Deborah can come down to the Library, if called by staff or
volunteers, to monitor the installation.
The lighting was discussed. The lights are old and we’ve
recently had several problems with them. This topic should be discussed at a
future Board meeting. Once automation is complete, the Board would also like to
revisit planning painting and remodeling the main reception area.
New Business
The Board unanimously approved Christmas bonuses for Angel
Squires-Restino ($150), and Michelle Dufort ($300). We are most appreciative of
all their hard work this past year.
The next Board meeting will be January 18, 2018 at 6 pm.
The meeting adjoined at 6:45 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Deborah Toomey, Secretary
