Grafton Public Library Trustees Meeting Minutes

Attending: Bob Donald, Lucia Corwin, Andrea Dunmire, David Whittall and librarian Michelle Dufort
Bob Donald called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm.
Public comment: No public in attendance
The minutes of the January 19, 2017 meeting were read and approved
Michelle gave brief description of goals and configuration of Turner Hill Historic Site steering committee and the library’s role. Board expressed appreciation for Jason Ballard’s offer to volunteer at the library regarding building and grounds issues.
The updated financial reports were distributed and discussed. The GPL is effectively on budget for the fiscal year. The Annual Appeal goal has been met.
Endowment reports from TIAA-CREF were also distributed. The combined endowment – main and Jerry Stevens Fund – totals slightly over $1 million.
After a brief discussion of interior painting and building issues, in which Lucia recommended hiring an architect for renovation concerns and Andrea donated stick-on lights for the book sale room (thank you!), Lucia went over a few details concerning strategic planning garnered from the class she and Deborah Toomey attended. She outlined two key points emphasized in the class: including timeframe for volunteer commitment (minimal) and composition of focus group (one representative from each community group listed on a worksheet provided at the class). It was determined that our current strategic plan is seven years old. Bob will make copies of the Cornwall Library strategic plan and our current plan and put them in board members boxes for review before the next board meeting.
The next Board meeting will be on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 6 pm.
