Treasurer’s Report:
The June financial report was accepted. It is the last
financial report of FY24.
Librarian’s Report: The library received a
Grafton Fund grant which covers the cost of the conference room projector, but
the check has not been received yet. Michelle will contact Bob Donald. All paperwork has been completed for the
Courier grant, but the check from the state has not arrived. Michelle will
follow up with Kim Record to see if she has it.
Work is ongoing for the pro forma FY26 budget to submit to the Town of
Grafton at their budget meeting in the fall, along with our request for
increased tax support, with the amount to be determined by the board at a
future meeting.
This August, the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Lecture Series will
present A View from Germany: A Conversation with Two Journalists presented by
Bettina Mussel and Werner Kilz, with moderator Liisa
Kissel.
Michelle purchased a window air conditioner for upstairs
using funds from the Schmitt/Bellaff donation and it
is working well to keep the building comfortable during hot weather.
Michelle has provided Galen Johnson with trustee and
treasurer orientation materials and will attend the transition meeting to be
scheduled with Galen and Kathleen.
Old Business: Michelle will contact Rich from Southern Vermont Homes to get
an update on when the porch renovation and interior work
might begin. We are still waiting for an
updated estimate to include changing our electrical box to 200 amp and installation
of a basement light.
New Business: The trustees voted to accept the FY25 budget
as amended with the following changes: The new taxes for the Child Care
Contribution Act will be paid in full by the Grafton Library and employees will
not make a contribution to the CCC at this time. $198.15 will be added to
payroll tax expenses for the CCC and Michelle will ask Kim Record’s advice
about where it is best to include this in the FY25 budget. The budgeted amount
for annual appeal income was increased to $19,000. The expense line item for
postage will be changed to the title Inter-Library Loan to better reflect what
the expense incorporates.
The trustees accepted Kathleen Pajcic’s
resignation, effective immediately.
The trustees are pleased to nominate Galen Johnson to the
library board to complete Kathleen Pajcic’s term.
Galen will be approved as treasurer by the trustees after the select board
confirms his nomination to the library board. Both with receive thank you notes.
The trustees agreed to allow the Grafton Improvement
Association to hang the flag from the library’s balcony or on a cable with a
catch release from the roof of the library to the old firehouse (whichever
configuration the GIA decides is workable). The flag will be hung for
approximately a week on both the July 4th and Memorial Day holidays.
The GIA agrees that they are responsible for all repairs and replacements to
the flag as needed, as well as installation and repair of the equipment to hang
the flag. The GIA will also take responsibility each year for hanging the flag
and taking it down in a timely fashion.
